The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer who thrives on execution. This is a freelance/remote position where you’ll be responsible for delivering well-defined tasks efficiently and independently.

Your focus will be on building and maintaining robust backend systems, APIs, and database structures—all while ensuring top-notch performance and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-quality Ruby on Rails applications.

• Execute well-defined engineering tasks with minimal supervision.

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices.

• Collaborate with frontend engineers to build seamless APIs.

• Troubleshoot and debug issues efficiently.

• Review and optimise database queries for performance.

• Ensure security, performance, and reliability of applications.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of Ruby on Rails development experience.

• Strong backend architecture and API design skills.

• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work on time.

• Proficiency in PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, and background job processing.

• Comfortable with Git workflows and collaborative development.

• Familiarity with task management tools (Linear).

• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience working in client-facing roles.

• Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, etc.).

• Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, or infrastructure management.

• Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq, Resque, etc.).
