Team Lead Backend Engineer (Ruby on Rails, Mobile App)

We are hiring a Team Lead Backend Engineer for an international dating/social mobile product with 16M+ users worldwide. The app ranked among the Top 10 most-downloaded dating apps in the U.S. last year.This is a remote role for candidates based in Europe. You will join a startup-style team of around 20-22 people, with fast decision-making, flexible processes, and a high level of personal ownership.The role combines backend leadership, architecture, hands-on development, and team mentoring. For this posting, we are especially interested in candidates with strong Ruby on Rails experience and recent backend experience for mobile apps. Python or Go experience is a plus.What you will do:- Lead the backend direction of the product and contribute to technical strategy- Design backend server architectures and develop reliable backend services- Build and improve APIs used by mobile applications- Solve technical problems raised by the product team- Run A/B and multivariate testing experiments, analyze results, and deploy successful changes- Monitor, optimize, and improve performance of existing systems- Manage and mentor developers and engineers- Implement security best practices to protect customer data- Improve development, deployment, and support automation processes with the teamWhat we are looking for:- 8+ years of backend development experience in production- Strong Ruby on Rails experience- Recent experience developing backend systems for mobile apps- Experience managing or leading a team of developers- Experience with scalable development and deployment for products with at least 10,000 DAUs- Experience with cloud deployment, operations, and optimization- Experience with databases and query optimization, including partitioning, sharding, and performance optimization- Experience with algorithm design- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs- Experience with Git and agile development methodologies- Understanding of DevOps principles and best practices- Knowledge of security best practices for web and mobile applications- Experience with RSpec or other automated testing frameworks- Strong focus on performance optimization- Fluent English for communication with an international teamYou will be a great fit if you:- Ask the right questions early and clarify requirements before implementation- Translate product and business goals into clear technical solutions- Communicate clearly and confidently- Have a "let's get it done" mindset- Are highly detail-oriented- Enjoy sharing ideas and building things together- Can collaborate effectively with a global remote teamWhat the company offers:- Remote work and an international team- 28 days of paid vacation- Compensation for training and equipment- The opportunity to influence a product with a multimillion-user audience- Annual team workation; previous trips took place in Thailand and Indonesia
